Londonderry family opticians wins national award
Eglinton Eyecare, an independent family opticians, has been announced the winner of a prestigious national award in recognition of its services to optics. Run by the Association of Optometrists (AOP) and sponsored by CooperVision, the awards recognise the highest levels of achievement in UK optics.
Eglinton Eyecare, in Eglinton, Londonderry, was named the winner in the ‘Marketing Innovation of the Year’ category during an awards dinner held in Birmingham yesterday. This award recognises the person or company that has led an inspiring and creative marketing campaign which has had a positive impact on the business.
Established in 2005, the Eglinton Eyecare team of four is headed up by optometrist and owner, Jean Kelly. Commenting on the award, Ms Kelly said: “It is a wonderful feeling to have this recognition. A fantastic reward for the whole team. As an independent practice, staff at Eglinton Eyecare believe it is their duty to enhance awareness of the importance of eye health in the local community it serves. The practice focuses its innovative marketing campaigns around how it can bring optometry out of practice to engage with the local community and help educate them on the importance of regular eye care, from childhood through to senior years.”
AOP Chairman, Lyndon Taylor, said: “This is the third year that the AOP has run its prestigious Awards evening, which celebrates the achievements of optical professionals and groups. Each year the enthusiasm for the Awards seems to grow, and 2013 is no exception.
“We have received more nominations than ever before, with 16,000 votes cast for those who have been shortlisted. The winners and those shortlisted should be celebrated for their individual initiatives and achievements.”
